At Arm's Length

It is easier to look around us than within ourselves

At Arm’s Length is a collection of images made from within family life.

They come from a place of intimacy, but also from a certain distance created by the camera, by observation, by the act of paying attention.

Most of the time, I feel I am living from a distance, learning to stay close while allowing those I love the space to become themselves.

While photographing those closest to me, I began to wonder whether I was documenting them or trying to understand myself through them.

Perhaps both.

It is hard to recognise, but it is a small confession: it is easier to look around us than within ourselves.
